Secretary Uy expressed gratitude to the ITU for its support of the Philippines’ Smart Village initiative in Sacol Island, Mindanao. This pioneering project exemplifies the country’s efforts to transform rural areas into digitally empowered communities by integrating ICT solutions in healthcare, education, and local governance. Inspired by the success in Sacol Island, the DICT plans to replicate this model in other underserved islands in the Philippines, further expanding the impact of rural digital transformation.
