Remarks of Jocelle Batapa-Sigue as Undersecretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT):

Our vision at the Department of Information and Communications Technology is to equip our countryside with the power of IoT. By integrating IoT technologies into our ICT strategies, we are not just improving connectivity, but also opening doors to countless opportunities for education, employment, entrepreneurship, and development in the rural sectors.

As we drive this mission forward, we are continuously working with the public and private sectors, collaborating with universities, research institutions, and industry leaders, to develop and implement technologies that would benefit every Juan and Juana in our society.

To foster the spirit of innovation, we are encouraging startups and entrepreneurs to build IoT solutions that are tailor-made for our unique challenges. Our role as DICT is to provide them with the platform and the infrastructure, and to nurture an environment conducive to the growth of such innovation.

There are challenges, indeed. From connectivity issues, a lack of awareness and technical know-how, to privacy and security concerns. However, we are committed to overcoming these hurdles. The path we’ve embarked upon requires strategic planning, collaboration, and relentless determination.

I have great faith in the Filipino spirit. Our resiliency, creativity, and passion for progress will drive us forward. As we stand on the brink of this technological revolution, we must harness the power of IoT and ICT for the betterment of our people and the prosperity of our countryside.
