Cavite ICT Council Strategic Planning Highlights DICT’s Digital Innovation for Women’s Advancement (DIWA)

The Cavite Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Council, together with the Provincial Government of Cavite, conducted a strategic planning activity on April 14, 2023. The event took place at The Bayleaf Cavite, City of General Trias, Cavite.

The goal of the event was to enhance the council’s ability to execute its work plans and programs for the growing ICT industry in Cavite. With a dynamic cadre of officers and members who are competitive in their respective fields, the council aims to bridge the gap between opportunities and resources available to stakeholders in order to improve their collective capacity to achieve ICT development goals.

The Cavite ICT Council recognizes the crucial role of digital innovation in advancing women’s participation in the ICT industry. With this in mind, the council invited Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue to talk about the “Digital Innovation for Women’s Advancement (DIWA) Program.

The DIWA Program aims to provide women with opportunities to advance their careers in the ICT industry through access to training, mentorship, and networking opportunities. The program also seeks to promote diversity and inclusion in the ICT sector, recognizing that a more diverse workforce can drive innovation and competitiveness in the industry.

The strategic planning activity provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the DIWA Program and its potential impact on the ICT industry in Cavite. Through collaboration and partnerships, the council aims to drive the growth and development of the ICT sector in the province, while also promoting the advancement of women in the industry.

The strategic planning activity of the Cavite ICT Council Inc. was attended by various officers and representatives from different organizations. The council’s officers who participated in the event were Teresita Leabres, president; Nelson Remulla, vice president for the private sector; Gilda De Jesus, vice president for the public sector and Provincial Director-Department of Science and Technology; Revelyn Cortez,  treasurer and Provincial Director-Department of Trade and Industry; Rosemarie Talavera, Provincial Director – Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Lionel Dalope, Provincial Director- Department of the Interior and Local Government and Emerson Atanacio,  Chief Executive Officer of National College of Science and Technology and former Cavite ICT Council Inc president.

Other attendees included Anne Ferrer, the president of the Cavite Provincial Council of Women, and Emerson Atanacio, Chief Executive Officer of a private organization. In addition, representatives from other organizations also participated, including Dr. Mary Joy Abueg, president of National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP); Director Cheryl Ortega, regional director for Department of Information and Communications Technology, Regions 4A and MIMAROPA; Dr. Maria Graciela Bucad, Technical Operations Division Chief of DICT Region 4A. The event was facilitated by Bonifacio Belen. The participation of these individuals and organizations underscores the importance of collaboration and partnership in driving the growth and development of the ICT industry in Cavite.

Overall, the Cavite ICT Council Strategic Planning Activity was a successful event that focused on promoting digital innovation and advancing women’s participation in the ICT industry. The council remains committed to fostering a more inclusive and diverse workforce and will continue to work towards its goals of driving ICT development in Cavite.
